Dear families
On behalf of the school, I would like to thank you all for your incredible perseverance, patience and understanding as we managed the impact of the most recent storm to hit Hanoi. Thank you.
On Wednesday night I hosted a session explaining our International A Level program. Thank you to all those who attended the event.
Last weekend we had a group of secondary students attend the World Mathematics Championships Qualifying event in HCMC. I am delighted to say BVIS students achieved 5 medals with 2 invites to the next round in Melbourne. Well done everyone.
This week our Year 12 students enjoyed several days in Dalat for their annual residential trip. A great time was had by all.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our new Primary Canteen event this week due to the school closure. We have re-arranged for a later date and we hope many of you will join us.
It just leaves me to wish you all a very safe and happy holiday next week. I believe we are all ready for a well-earned break. School will reopen on Monday 20th October.
Last Friday, we celebrated the Moon Festival! We were so excited to invite our parents into the classroom to join in the fun.
An afternoon filled with laughter and joy was shared as Early Years celebrated the Moon Festival with their grown-ups.
In Year 1, together, parents and children painted beautiful masks and made colourful paper cup lanterns. The children loved sharing this special celebration with their families.
Thank you to all the parents who joined us and helped make the day so memorable!
In Year 2, it was lovely to see parents and children creating a persimmon branch together to decorate their mooncake and tea table in the four house teams. The children offered their parents a cup of tea to show love and gratitude, and shared a piece of mooncake. The atmosphere was warm and joyful.
Year 3 students delivered an outstanding Moon Festival performance that truly captured the spirit of the celebration. With confidence and enthusiasm, they sang beautifully and danced with energy, bringing joy to everyone present. Beyond the stage, the students and their parents shared memorable moments together through a variety of festive activities. Families enjoyed making colourful decorations, peeling the fruit, and making mooncakes. These experiences not only strengthened family bonds but also helped the children appreciate the cultural significance of the Moon Festival in a fun and creative way.
In the last week, Year 4 have been preparing for their Exit Point Assembly. They have been retelling their story using puppets and making Viking Shields.
Year 5 students had a fantastic Sport Day filled with energy, teamwork, and fun! They took part in exciting activities such as Relay Races, Channel Ball, and Dodgeball, showing great effort, resilience, and team spirit.
Thank you to teachers, TAs, and parents for making the day so special. Congratulations to all Year 5 students – we are very proud of you! 💪✨
Year 6’s IPC Exit Point for What Price Progress? was an amazing showcase of the children’s learning this term. They demonstrated outstanding curiosity, collaboration, and confident speaking and listening skills while sharing their discoveries about how progress affects people and the planet.
This year’s Moon Festival Assembly in the Secondary school was filled with smiles and joy as students enthusiastically took part in games and earned points for their Houses. They also had the chance to explore the rich traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, not only in Vietnam but across Asia. The vibrant performances were a highlight of the event, showcasing the artistic talents of BVIS Hanoi students and adding a colourful flair to the celebration.
Well done to the whole team who travelled to HCMC last weekend to compete in this competition. They were our most successful team yest, bringing home 5 medals! For the first time, our students received 2 golden invites to the finals in Melbourne. Congratulations Nhat Minh and Quang Dung for this amazing achievement.
A huge thank you to Ms. Jennifer Wroe and Mr. Henry Willetts for giving up their time to give our students this amazing opportunity.
The UKMT Senior Challenge 2025 will take place on Friday 10th October. 52 students will set their sights on getting a Bronze, Silver or Gold certificate. A few will be hoping to shine and gain a coveted invite to the next stage of the competition. We wish them all lots of luck!
Congratulations to Tran Do Vu Bang in Year 12 who was Highly Commended for his entry in the John Locke 2025 Global Essay competition. He faced tough competition with 63328 contestants from more than 150 countries around the world and placed in the top 3%. Well done Vu Bang!
Despite the awful weather and the trials that most University Reps went through to get to Hanoi, they still provided online sessions on Wednesday 2nd October (over 100 + universities were available) and then some also popped into school on Thursday 3rd October to speak to our students and parents face to face. Thank you, Brunel University London, SHL, Switzerland and UBC, Canada! We appreciate your dedication.
Year 10 Students have been delving into the concept of packet switching in data transmission. They've dramatized the delivery of packets by acting as data packets navigating their way to a destination across the internet. Following this activity, they independently summarised their understanding of the process.
We are very excited to announce the launch of the Global Campus Writing Competition for 2025/26! This year’s Writing Competition is all about collaboration- using other students’ character and setting ideas to write a story on any theme. Sam Sedgman, our special guest judge and children’s author, has created tutorial videos to help students develop their stories.
Students can share their characters on the sharing wall and explore the settings in the Photography Spotlight activity before starting their own story.
One top entry per age group will represent BVIS Hanoi globally. The winning entries from each age group will be submitted into the global competition. Global winners will have their stories professionally illustrated and made into e-books published on GC! Deadline for submissions is Friday 12 December, and can be sent to Mr. Ogden via Teams or email, or submitted via the Teams assignment.
Students will be on Mid-term holiday from 13 to 17 October. Students come back to school on Monday 20 October.
