Frequently asked questions

  • Is NAIS Hong Kong accredited?
Yes, NAIS Hong Kong is inspected and accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). We’re also accredited by the Cambridge International Examinations board.
  • Are your teachers qualified?

Yes, all our teachers are UK-qualified. They hold a minimum bachelor's degree along with a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE), which is a specific and targeted teacher training qualification.

Teachers from outside the UK have equivalent, internationally recognised qualifications. Many also have master's degrees or other specialist, high-level expertise.

  • How does the Early Years Foundation Stage (and its focus on ‘learning through play’) help children develop?
The Early Years Foundation Stage's ‘learning through play’ approach ensures our children love coming to school every day. Really importantly, it develops lifelong knowledge and skills through a UK-accredited framework that is carefully adapted to our international context here in Hong Kong.

Over the course of a typical day, our youngest children access a wide range of purposefully designed learning zones. What looks and feels like play helps them to build the foundations of literacy and an understanding of numbers. Play also nurtures crucial emotional and social attributes, helps to build friendships, and encourages motor and movement skills.

Our teachers regularly adapt the learning zones to the needs and interests of our children. They’re experts at knowing when to stand back and observe, and when to step in to support and guide learning.
  • How does the approach to learning change as children move into Primary and Secondary School?
Building on the fantastic foundations laid in the Early Years Foundation Stage, we adapt our curricula, learning environments, and teaching to the needs of our Primary and Secondary School students. Learning continues to be tailored to each child’s needs, and we enrich the English National Curriculum with best practice, enquiry-based learning, and collaborations with Juilliard, MIT, and UNICEF.

Our IGCSE and IB Diploma programmes offer students choice and opportunity, as well as inspiring remarkable academic success. Our graduates receive offers from first-choice universities around the world, which is thanks to our focus on outstanding results, creativity, collaboration, and global awareness.
  • English is not my family’s first language. How will my child be supported at your school?
We offer a comprehensive English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme that is proven to support our students' linguistic development. Many of our learners need support when they initially join us; however, our results show that, within a very short period, they make remarkable improvement.

Our EAL team provides individualised support that fast-tracks children into full participation in the classroom. Every teacher has been trained to help students improve their English throughout their learning journey.
